Riding Between Rivers

In this tour we ride out from the Farm Kálfhóll along the pleasant trail at Thjórsá glacier-fed river, the longest river in Iceland with a view of the mighty Volcano Mountain Hekla, looking over us from a distant.

In this tour we ride out from the Farm Kálfhóll along the pleasant trail at Thjórsá glacier-fed river, the longest river in Iceland with a view of the mighty Volcano Mountain Hekla, looking over us from a distant.
We will also ride along with the river Hvítá through moss and grassy farmland, and enjoy the Icelandic horse on his own home ground. This tour is ideal for families with children and/or riders that would like to experience Iceland on horseback in a quiet environment.

  1. Day 1:   Reykjavík – Kálfhóll farm – Guesthouse Blesastaðir

    Pick up between 09:00 and 10:00 from pick up points in Reykjavik www.busstop.is  or BSÍ bus station in Reykjavik. We will be transferred to Kálfhóll farm where we meet the farmers and staff. We will have lunch at the farm and then an introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gaits.

    This day is perfect for getting to know the horses and getting used to riding them. After a relaxing day on horseback, we will have dinner at Guesthouse Blesastaðir and enjoy an outdoor hot tub before a good night sleep for the next day. (Approx. 15 km)

  2. Day 2:  Kálfhóll Farm – River Þjórsá –  Guesthouse Blesastaðir

    After breakfast, we will go to the stable and find our horse for today. We will ride along a pleasant trail at Þjórsá glacier-fed river and have our lunch in a relaxed atmosphere at the banks of Þjórsá river. We will enjoy the Icelandic nature and feel the relaxation of the singing birds and the river sound all around us. This day is the perfect day to get to know your horse better and the Icelandic way of trail riding. We will have dinner and stay the night at Blesastaðir. Hot tub on site!

  3. Day 3:  Kálfhóll farm – River Hvítá – Guesthouse Blesastaðir

    Today we will ride to the River Hvítá, ( the white river ). Hvítá river begins at the Hvítárvatn glacier lake on the Langjökull glacier. The river flows for 40 km before dropping down into a narrow gorge at the famous Gullfoss waterfall on her way to the Atlantic Ocean. We will follow good riding tracks on our way to Hvítá and through lava and moss with amazing mountain view where the volcano Hekla, queen of the mountains will look over us. Dinner at Blesastaðir Guesthouse where we will spend the night and can enjoy the outdoor hot tub.  (Approx. 20 km)

  4. Day 4:  Kálfhóll farm –  Þjórsá and the horses at Kálfhóll Farm – Guesthouse Blesastaðir

    Today we will meet the horses that live at Kálfhóll Farm. We will go to their summer pastures and ride along with the herd that is running free around the Farm and maybe see the new foals that have been born this summer, perfect day for photos! Our ride takes us along the riverside of Þjórsá which is the longest river in Iceland or about 212km and lead us through fertile farmland and on an excellent riding trail and witness what Icelandic countryside is all about. We will return to Reykjavík approx. at 18:00.   (Approx. 20 km)
